Position Regional business development manager for Lend Lease Project Management and Construction.
Kind of riding I mostly do recreational riding throughout the year with three or four groups, including one of five mates who spend more time emailing each other about our next European trip then we do actually riding. Over the past four years, I have trained with 36 property executives for the Chain Reaction Corporate Bike Challenge. The 2011 course from Sydney to Melbourne via the Snowy Mountains was more than 1100 kilometres in seven days and included 13,000 metres of amazing climbing. We raised $1.1 million for Starlight and Monash Hospital. Our coach [Dual World Triathlon Champion] Emma Carney, pushes us all the way – she likes to see us suffer doing repeats up Kinglake.
Kilometres a week For Chain Reaction I ramp up from 150 kilometres to 400-plus, do the Alpine Classic, complete the Murray to Moyne with the Toros and hibernate in winter to watch Collingwood before it all starts again.
Bikes I ride a Cannondale Super Six Hi-Mod Ultimate black carbon bike and an Argon 18 Platinum carbon bike as a spare. I also have an old Orbea Team Euskaltel-Euskadi Tour de France bike in the attic that I rode in France in 2005.
How much? The Cannondale was about $10,000 and the Argon $7000. I want a new Passoni Titanium bike but will need to sell the house to fit it in – and pay for it.
Last bike or gear purchase A set of Reynolds SDV46 Carbon racing wheels to make me go very fast.
Favourite bit of cycling gear If you want to pay for quality that will last many years, Assos make the best cycling gear in the world.
Do you stop at a stop sign if there is no one around? Only if someone else does.
Tips More riding and less web surfing and spend money on a good set of wheels.
Favourite ride in Australia It’s hard to beat a ride up to the Dandenongs with the lads on a Saturday morning, but I look forward to riding on the Great Ocean Road anywhere from Anglesea to Apollo Bay and the Otways.
Who would you most like to go on a long ride with? Stuie O’Grady and the Boss, Lance Armstrong. Does Jennifer Hawkins ride a bike?
Favourite refuel station Café Racers, St Kilda, is a fav but if you are in Lorne try Bottle of Milk – great burgers and coffee – or Red Till in Anglesea. The O’Bar up Alpe d’Huez is worth a visit.
Disaster stories, memorable moments? In 2005 a broken seat post riding stage 19 while following the Tour de France. A broken spoke on the climb up Galibier in 2010 and a broken back after being T-Boned by a driver in December 2009. Had a great summer – in bed for 20 hours every day and not riding for eight months.
